In their bid to enter the Kane Road business and steal $800 in cutting tools and cash, those responsible shot a guard dog in the head.
The bullet had broken into fragments in the dog’s skull.
The business owners later retired their guard dog Lilly after she recovered from her ordeal and since 2011 she has lived on a property near Yackandandah with new owners.
Now police believe they have a breakthrough in the case, with new forensic evidence offering them the opportunity to solve the crime and identify the perpetrators.
Sgt Graeme Simpfendorfer says police are missing just a few pieces of the puzzle and they have made a new plea to the community seeking information that will give them what they need to make an arrest and lay charges.
