$3m brain health centre for Albury

4PM: ALBURY has won a $3m grant to build the state's first brain health centre.

Member for Albury Greg Aplin announced the funding today following a vocal campaign from residents for better mental health services on the Border.

He said the centre, to be built over the next two years, would be a first for the state and for regional NSW.

It would bring government and non-government services together under one roof to provide support for conditions ranging from depression and anxiety to eating disorders, Alzheimer's and schizophrenia.

Mr Aplin said the fact Albury had one of the highest public participation rates of all suicide prevention forums held by the State Government in 2012 played a large part in helping to secure funding for the area.

“Following the visit by the Minister for Mental Health (the Hon Kevin Humphries) last July I was able to secure his support and the backing of the Minister for Finance and the Treasurer for funding of this project,”he said.

“Health professionals in our area have welcomed the concept and will now be involved in its development.”
