BENALLA trainer Peter Smith has his eyes on the city after Play Master made it three wins on the trot yesterday.
After recent wins at Wangaratta and Albury, the $3-favourite highlighted exactly why it was well fancied as it scored a half-length win over Back To The Bar in the final race of the Albury carnival. Smith wasn’t expecting anything less.
“He’s definitely a city-class horse,” he said.
“I expected to win by further.
“I think he’s looking for further.
“It took him a while to wind up.”
Smith said there was still plenty of improvement in the five-year- old.
“He’s still doing a lot wrong,” he said.
“He probably only raced for about 300 metres at Wang the other day.”
In an interesting twist, smart Brett Cavanough mare Strada’s Diamond was declared a starter, despite taking no part in the race. Strada’s Diamond inexplicably dawdled out of the barriers and failed to finish.
