STATE OF ORIGIN: Trent Rixon the Border war draw

NORTHCOTE City striker and Border export Trent Rixon could be the star attraction at soccer’s State of Origin on Good Friday.

Having trialled the format on the Queen’s Birthday weekend last year, the match which pits state against state is set to become a permanent fixture and fund-raiser for the Royal Children’s Hospital.

Rixon would be one of the best strikers not to have played A-League, having won the Victorian Premier League golden boot for Northcote and led the side as captain from the first division to the premier league.

NSW coach Josh Fluss said Rixon, a former Melrose player, was keen to make the trip home.

“It’s competitive alr-eady when a Victorian club side play, NSW club side,” Fluss said.

“And it’s good experience for the players just having the best playing together.”

NSW is looking to turn the tables on Victoria after losing the first game last year 2-0.

The match will be played at La Trobe.
