Yet another politician visited the southern Riverina village yesterday to discuss the problem.
This time it was parliamentary secretary Paul Fletcher who was met by 60 locals, angry they can’t secure adequate mobile reception in their region.
They gave Mr Fletcher examples of where there have been fatalities in the area as a result of car accidents when emergency authorities couldn’t be contacted quickly enough as the mobile service is compromised.
There were also examples of missed business opportunities for farmers whose grain trade is reliant on communication.
Savernake residents have now been told it will be another 12 months before they know if they will receive the federal funding needed to fix the blackspot.
The meeting also revealed problems with landline coverage as a result of recent rains.
It isn’t good enough residents should have to put up with a substandard service. A faster solution must be found to deliver a service taken for granted only an hour away.
