The attacking midfielder suffered the mystery injury in the Savoys 2-1 win against Wangaratta on Sunday.
Mirt was on crutches until Wednesday and late yesterday was still limping while still waiting on the results of a mid-week scan on his knee.
Wanderers, who lost their first game of the year to Boomers last week, still sit three points clear of a chasing pack led by Myrtleford.
The Savoys have strung together an eight-round winning streak, their last loss in March also to Boomers.
But Mirt is unlikely to play if there is any risk of further damage.
“I don’t think I’ve ever had an injury like this, the pain is in the knee and radiating down the leg,” he said.
“I don’t like my chances of playing this Sunday and Alex Murrel is missing again after being out last week as well.
“There is certainly no point playing if it means I miss the rest of the season.
“It couldn’t come at a worse time, especially against Twin City, who are such a good team.
“They are the benchmark for the league — they have quality across the park and squad, their depth in the reserves is unrivalled.”
Mirt used versatile teenager Vitaly Leschen in attack last week and is likely to make further changes tomorrow.
“He has been playing in defence this year but he can really play anywhere,” he said.
“I played him up front last week where he did quite well but I’m likely to have to re-shuffle the line-up again.”
Mirt is hoping a vocal home crowd and team-based game plan can blunt Twin City’s attack.
“We have to focus on every player doing their job — if we can do that, play as a team, anything is possible,” he said.
“But I’m aware that it is a tough task playing Twin City, particularly with them coming off a loss.
“We have great support at home — they are the best crowd in the league and they will be a great motivator on Sunday.”
Twin City coach David Afonso is also likely to make changes after the 2-1 loss last week.
“The boys were gutted,” he said.
“We couldn’t train on Tuesday night with the grounds closed but everyone is fit and available.
“We don’t know exactly what we will do with the line-up on Sunday, there are no guarantees for anyone in the squad.
“With our depth and the form of the reserve grade, there are any number of players knocking on the door.”
