Albury sinkhole safe, at least for now

The sink hole has been filled with what looks like concrete and blue metal.

A WRONGLY aligned sewer pipe is believed to be the cause of a sinkhole that appeared in Gehrig Lane, Albury, this week.

The lane — from Macauley to Young streets, between Swift and Wilson streets — re-opened yesterday.

A council spokeswoman said the hole had been filled and made safe until it could be further examined next week.

“Crews will vacuum out the site and if a misalignment is confirmed, they will repair the main, back-fill the hole and repair the road,” she said.

Delivery driver Mick Humphrey spotted the hole on Wednesday and reported it.
