It is hardly surprising the boat is facing an uncertain future on the Border.
Come this Christmas it will be eight years since the Cumberoona was out on the open water of the Murray River.
And it is not as if the council hasn’t made every effort to save the boat.
Cr Darren Cameron has once again stated his desire to sell if off, but the council has tried hard to keep it afloat without success.
Three months ago it was thought the council might finally commit itself to disposing of it, but one last report makes it clear the Cumberoona has no future in Albury.
It would be no surprise if the council’s community and cultural committee tonight backs the recommendation to sell.
A possible $170,000 return from its sale would at least be a small win, given it is estimated the Cumberoona has cost the city more than $2.5 million in 22 years.
Whether the loss of the Cumberoona would in turn put plans for a multimillion-dollar riverside development in doubt is another question.
For the sake of its ratepayers and residents, the council needs to make a decision on the Cumberoona.
