On Thursday morning sitting in my hotel reading The Border Mail I couldn’t believe the headline “Attacker has anger issues”.
Wow! How do you as the locals react to this story?
I tell you what — I’d have anger issues at the non-justice system that’s being used in your community.
Six years ago on my first trip I used to enjoy a leisurely stroll after dinner, admiring this beautiful city and the relaxed atmosphere that only a country city can offer.
The last couple of years I’ve changed this routine as I haven’t felt as safe as I used to.
That thug attacked an innocent bystander with such force that he required five weeks off work.
He had to have facial surgery inserting titanium plates and there will be more surgery to follow.
Why? Because he suffers “anger issues”.
No he doesn’t, he suffers from lack of consequences for his previous actions in life and he will continue to be a recidivist offender.
Magistrate Megan Greenwood has just reinforced this with two years suspended sentence, not even a fine or community service.
Hasn’t she seen enough deaths that have resulted from these coward punches. The powers that be must say stop.
We should be sending a clear and loud message to these angry youths — these actions will not be tolerated.
