A KTM 65 and YZF 250 were stolen from a Barnawartha property on Plunketts Road on June 24.
They were taken between 1pm and 3pm while owner Jake Margery was at work.
A chainsaw and Engel fridge were also stolen from the rural property.
“The bikes were our pride and joy,” Mr Margery said.
“We rode them a lot and I was going to give mine to my niece.
“My mate saved for ages for his YZF 250.”
Mr Margery, 22, said he did not know why he was targeted.
“Especially in the middle of the day,” he said.
“They are obviously scum.”
The bikes were stolen from Mr Margery’s shed.
“I have no idea how they knew we had the bikes,” he said.
“They must have scoped the joint out.”
Wodonga Detective Acting Sgt Ian Deverell said it was definitely a target offence and believed the thieves knew the bikes were on the property.
“We don’t get many burglaries in Barnawartha but unfortunately it is one of those places that is isolated,” he said.
Sgt Deverell believed the bikes were still in the area of Wodonga and Wangaratta.
“We can hopefully find those responsible,” he said.
“These bikes might have been offered for sale at a cheap price or somebody might have been given them by the thieves.”
Mr Margery said the theft hit him hard because of his age and the money involved.
“It takes a while to save for things,” he said.
Mr Margery was shocked when he arrived home on the day of the burglary to find the gates open when cattle were in the paddock.
“It was lucky none of them got out,” he said.
Sgt Deverell said police were still analysing forensic evidence.
