While the details of this may be complex, there is one outstanding fact which is quite simple and whose consequences are easy to understand — that flight MH17 was brought down over East Ukraine by gunfire from a Ukrainian fighter jet.
While Western governments, including our own, rushed to blame Russia directly or indirectly for this atrocity, and strengthened sanctions against Russia on that basis, they did so without a shred of evidence — something which at best suggests complicity in this monstrous act of terrorism.
Sadly Western media have accepted this false story despite abundant evidence from Russian radar and satellite records and from the bullet riddled cockpit of MH17.
At the same time they have ignored the intensified government assault on the citizens of Eastern Ukraine, with the deaths of some 1500 civilians in the last few weeks and flight of hundreds of thousands over the border into Russia.
We must condemn all such attacks on innocent civilians, but clearly now think twice about who we condemn for them.
