Garland gave a brutally honest assessment of Lavington’s most recent showing against the reigning premier leading into today’s blockbuster, saying the Pigeons’ stars ran riot on their way to a 12-point victory in round 17.
“Their good ball users tore us apart,” he said.
“We fell apart in stages of the game and we certainly didn’t think we reached our best.
“They’ve obviously got a helluva lot of talent, but we need to back ourselves and pressure the ball carrier.
“We need to force them into making silly decisions.
“But I think we all know it will go up another level this week.
“It’s a totally different ball game.”
Brendan Fevola booted four goals in 15 minutes that day and Garland said there was no doubt the Panthers had to limit his influence.
