In fact, WIRES must be licensed by the government to provide this service because all native animals are protected by law.
Our dedicated volunteers are trained to rescue, rehabilitate and, equally importantly, facilitate the release of native animals back into the wild.
The risk with too much human contact is that the rescued animal will never learn to fend for itself and will require human intervention for the rest of its life.
Thank you Ms Heaney for saving this magpie and, if we can help prepare the bird for release or if you would like to become a WIRES volunteer, you are welcome to phone our branch on 0427 493 716 or visit wires.org.au.
