A group of men had been drinking at Performance Car Mania at Winton on Saturday and made their way to the Albion Hotel in Wangaratta.
The men are accused of assaulting three people on the dance floor about 4.30am, with the incident captured by security cameras.
Security guards ejected the group and the victims were taken to hospital.
Two Dandenong residents — a 42-year-old and a 33-year-old — were arrested soon after at a city motel and charged with intentionally causing injury and recklessly causing injury.
Police believe at least two other people were involved in the altercation and are reviewing the security footage to identify them and other possible victims.
The Albion Hotel is licensed to operate until 5am on Saturdays and Sundays.
Licensee Stephen Wilson said the behaviour was very disappointing.
“It was totally unprovoked random act of violence and that’s the most disappointing thing, everyone was having a good time,” he said.
“One of my security guards came to the defence of a young lady and they turned on him and laid into him, fracturing his rib.
“It’s a really silly thing to do because there are video cameras everywhere in late-night venues.
“For people to think they can do these sorts of things with no retribution, that’s crazy.”
Sgt Mick Savage said there had been more than 100 people in the Murphy Street venue at the time.
“It’s a pathetic way for a night to end,” he said.
“People were having a good time and as a result of a spilt drink, three people are in hospital.
“No one wins; the crooks don’t win, the victims don’t win and the pubs don’t win.”
Police identified the two men after viewing the security footage, which led them to the motel.
“They were arrested within 1½ hours,” Sgt Savage said.
“We’re just trying to find out if there are any more victims or offenders.”
The victims — who received cuts, bruises and blood noses — are not facing any charges, he said.
