A woman’s car caught alight after she pulled into her driveway in Hague Street, Lavington, about 5.25pm yesterday.
The fire was confined to the engine bay and front wheels of the Toyota, and the woman used a garden hose to stop it spreading.
Firefighter Jim Browne said the lady had returned from the shops and noticed a warning light on the dashboard.
“It might have been some sort of electrical issue under the bonnet,” he said.
“All the wires were burnt beyond recognition.
“She did the right thing by calling triple-0 and kept out of the smoke as best she could.”
The woman was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation but was otherwise uninjured.
The incident may have been captured on a security camera installed at the front of the home.
Firefighters also responded to a car fire in Wangaratta yesterday.
The blaze broke out in the Mitsubishi Magna at a rural property on Greta Road about 2.45pm.
The vehicle was being driven at the time.
Police believe grass clippings went into the engine bay, causing a rubber fuel line to rupture.
The front of the car was extensively damaged by the fire.
“The owner put the fire out himself,” Leading Sen-Constable Marielle Porter said.
