The silver Toyota smashed through a brick wall into the bedroom of a unit just before 6pm.
Albury Central fire station officer Alex Marschall said two trucks and nine crew members attended.
“When we arrived we found a car had crashed into the building, damaging the gas main and causing a large gas leak,” he said.
“Our concern was the car was up against the meter box so we had to cut off the electricity supply to the circuit.”
Two elderly residents were in the car at the time of the crash.
A 90-year-old man, who was driving the vehicle, was taken to Albury hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and shock.
Fire crews were still waiting on a gas company from Benalla to arrive after 8pm.
“They will locate and dig up the main and cut off the gas supply to the premises,” Mr Marschall said.
“There is also concern that if we pull the car out the building might come down.”
The car was unable to be removed from the building last night due to the gas leak and limited daylight.
A structural engineer will look over the building to make sure the car can be removed today.
The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
The resident who lives in the unit stayed with family last night.
