The girl had been walking to school along North Street, Albury, about 8.05am Wednesday.

She told police a white vehicle had travelled slowly behind her near the intersection of Macaulay Street.

The girl walked through a nearby park before the man called out for her to get into the car.

She ran from the scene and the car drove off. She reported the incident to police the following day.

Albury Chief Inspector Kim Sorensen said police were looking into the matter.

“We’re always concerned about people approaching juveniles when they don’t know the people,” he said.

“Unfortunately, it’s a trend that seems to be occurring these days.

“If anyone comes across such an approach, we urge them to contact police immediately, rather than leaving it for a period of time.

“We’ll certainly do what we can to investigate the matter.”

Albury High School principal Darryl Ward said the school was seeking further information from police and said it regularly spoke to students about safety.

“Albury High School takes advice from police about matters of safety away from school that may affect its students,” he said.

“The school was advised on Thursday about the incident that reportedly occurred away from the school.

“It is waiting for further advice from the police about any action they recommend.

“The school regularly reminds students of the police ‘safe people, safe places’ message and encourages parents to discuss safety with their children.”

The man was described as being in his 50s and tanned with grey hair.

The vehicle was described as white with tinted windows and a blue and white registration plate, and may have been a station wagon.

Meanwhile, Albury detectives are continuing to investigate the indecent assault of a teenage girl at Howlong last Tuesday.
