In the wake of an accident at the Sandown 500 a new minimum tyre pressure has been introduced.
At Bathurst it meant little change but at the Gold Coast street circuit the V8s would normally run with lower than the new minimum pressures to improve grip.
Co-owner Brad Jones is prepared for the unknown.
“With the control tyre pressure it’s going to be very different up there,” he said.
“At Bathurst it didn’t seem to make much difference but we would have run those pressures anyway.
“At the Gold Coast you usually run them lower than the new minimum.
“I think it’s potentially going to be difficult and a little bit of a learning experience for everyone.
“Right now I’d say it’s as open as Bathurst was.”
BJR will start all three team cars on the almost three-kilometre circuit despite the damage sustained at Bathurst, with the first of the official practices tomorrow morning.
Jason Bright is optimistic the Team BOC car can carry its Bathurst speed through to the Gold Coast.
“I feel like we should be pretty competitive again,” he said.
“Townsville was a good round for us and Adelaide was going well until we rolled so I think our street track performance has been pretty good.
“It’s such a different track to all the others and you’ve got to use the kerbs so aggressively.
“It’s hard to know until you roll it out of the truck and see where you stand after a couple of sessions.”
Co-driver Andrew Jones returns to the Gold Coast track after a difficult 2013 when the car was damaged early in the race weekend.
“Having an incident in practice two really hurt our whole weekend,” he said.
“There’ll definitely be a change of my approach for this weekend versus what it was last year.
“The soft tyres always make it feel a lot nicer, especially on a street circuit but I’m going there with the long game in mind and we’ll see what we can do on Saturday and Sunday.”
