The Services NSW building will be located at the Australian Tax Office building on Smollett Street.
Member for Albury Greg Aplin said the site would house Roads and Maritime and NSW Fair Trading services, along with births, deaths and marriages, fishing licensing and various contracting licensing services.
The Roads and Maritime building on Hume Street will close once the new building is running, but the Fair Trading site will continue to operate.
“This is a great step forward for Albury,” Mr Aplin said.
“It will make it easier for people to access and importantly, it will operate for extended hours.
“The most thrilling and exciting thing is we get a one-stop shop.”
All staff who work at Roads and Maritime and some staff at Fair Trading will have to reapply for their jobs and are not guaranteed new positions.
But new service centre manager Carolyne Hartwig said the employees would be given priority for the new jobs.
“They have to go through an application process,” she said.
“To be able to cover the hours of 7am to 7pm Monday to Friday, and 9am to 3pm Saturday, we will need more staff.
“We don’t have enough staff to fill the full service range we will be offering.
“So there are local jobs for local people that will be available.”
The centre will cover light vehicle driver testing, but truck testing will be conducted at a site yet to be announced.
Mr Aplin said the new centre still needed Albury Council approval.
