POLICE have this afternoon been trying to find and apprehend the driver of a vehicle alleged to have reached speeds close to 200km/h on the Hume Highway.

Officers were alerted to the speeding gold Nissan X-Trail by members of the public at Benalla at about 10.50am.
Benalla police pursued the vehicle for a short period, and officers from other North East and NSW units attempted to stop the car further up the highway and across the border.
The driver, who is believed to have had two other people on board, continued into NSW and is now believed to be in Wagga.
