The Victorian government will give the money to the Hume Rural Health Alliance to replace its patient administration system.
Seventeen hospitals are in the group, including Benalla, Wangaratta and Shepparton.
“But this is particularly based upon Albury-Wodonga,” Health Minister David Davis said in Wodonga yesterday.
Mr Davis said the work — part of $80 million to be distributed state wide — was a key discussion point when he met the Albury Wodonga Health board.
“What it will mean is the ability to move information in a way that means people won’t have to go through so many cumbersome steps,” he said.

During his visit, Mr Davis toured facilities at Wodonga hospital.
