RAIN could not keep the crowds away from the Albury Show at the weekend.
Umbrellas popped up on Saturday morning as visitors continued to enjoy the attractions.
They even enjoyed the rides in the wet, saying it added to the excitement.
By lunchtime the rain had cleared and the sun was out.
“Numbers on Saturday were great considering the day started with rain,” show secretary Julie Walsh said.
“It got busier at lunchtime when the rain cleared but the wet conditions certainly didn’t keep people away.”
New rides and free children’s entertainment were a big drawcard.
For the first time in Albury the Eroni’s Circus brought its performing horses, ponies and circus clowns.
“A lot of families were drawn to the free entertainment like the circus performers,” Mrs Walsh said.
The Hanley siblings — Ella, 3, Rhys, 8, and James, 5, — from Lavington, were happy to get their hands on some show bags.
“We don’t go every year but when we do it’s a great treat,” mum Rachael Hanley said.
“It did rain but we had to go in the morning because I had work in the afternoon.
“The kids didn’t seem to mind at all — they had a great time.
“They still went on the rides and really enjoyed the animals and they were under cover.”
The McIntosh family — Debra, Jonathan, 8, Chloe, 6, and David — also braved the rain.
They recently moved to the Border from Bathurst where they were regular show-goers.
“We found it bigger than Bathurst,” Mr McIntosh said.
“There’s lots more rides and sideshow attractions.”
