The business, which is run by husband and wife David Lewis and Judith Doughty, will open in the former Jack’s Country Clothing store in Olive Street at Myer Centrepoint next Thursday.
Mr Lewis said 14,000 items would need to be moved to the new location.
“It’s time for a move, it’s a fresh start,” he said.
“We wanted to brighten up the shop and have more visibility from the street.
“It’s a slightly smaller store, but it’s about the same size as when we started 22 years ago.”
Staff will start moving from Monday in what Mr Lewis said would be a “logistical problem”.
“We’ve got to pack up every item in the shop, move it all a couple of hundred metres and put it back again,” he said.
“It’s going to be horrific.
“But we’ll do it.”
The store employs six people and Mr Lewis said business had been “fairly positive”.
“Retail is tough,” he said.
“Those book sellers who have hung in are starting to do OK.
“There’s a swing back to books, particularly with the younger audience.”
Dymocks will also host an event at The Cube featuring Julia Gillard next Wednesday which has sold out.
In other retail news, the former Pumpkin Patch store at the Mate’s building has been leased to the Pretty Girl Fashion Group.
The company has four fashion businesses in Rockmans, W Lane, BeMe, and Table Eight.
LJ Colquhoun commercial agent Corey Finlay said the 260-square metre store would operate as an emporium with all brands.
LJ Colquhoun director Andrew Dixon said the store fit out would start shortly after the lease was finalised last week.
“They will be up and running as soon as they can,” he said.
Mr Dixon said the store was likely to be trading by late November or early December.
