Nick Baker, 15, won his match 4&3 at Albury as Howlong wrapped up the final with a dominant 5-0 win over one of two Thurgoona teams.
Team manager Janet Rogers said they were a great bunch of kids.
“We have had Julia come back and play against the boys and Marcus Reid is just nine years of age,” she said.
“They all love the game — we practice on a Thursday and then they go and play holes against each other.”
This was the seventh Cameron Thompson junior pennant shield competition, with Howlong going back-to-back.
Xavier High student Baker was just happy to be on a winning team.
“My strength is my driving but I’ve loved being able to play at the different courses,” he said.
“I’ve got a long way to go but I just want to get as low as I can go with my handicap.”
MDGA president Kelvin Gilder said the handicap pennant players were the future of the sport.
“These boys and girls are our golfers of the future,” he said.
“But it is a huge commitment not just from the kids and family but all the other people who drive this like Thurgoona’s Penny Graeber.”
