Weldon, 26, is a dual premiership player with Jindera and arrives at Bunton Park after almost 200 games in the Hume league.
He said he was keen to have a crack at the challenge of Ovens and Murray while he was still relatively young.
“I thought being 26 it was now or never if I wanted to play at the higher level,” Weldon said.
“I had a bit of a go at O & M when I was 19 but I was a bit young back then and didn’t fully understand what was required to make it.
“It’s obviously a big step-up.”
Weldon played alongside Hopper midfielder Nick Holman in Jindera’s 2008 flag and said he couldn’t wait to play under coach Jason Akermanis.
“I’ve got a few close mates at North and sat down with Aker and discussed it all,” he said.
“They have got a young list that is on the rise and exciting to be a part of.
“I went and watched them play a few matches last season and it’s fair to say they play an exciting brand of football.”
Weldon was captain of Jindera this year and is a Hume league representative.
North Albury is yet to announce any confirmed departures after finishing seventh this year with a 7-11 record.
Brock-Burrum sharpshooter Kylin Morey has also joined the Hoppers.
North Albury will start pre-season training on Monday ahead of its first-round clash with Wodonga on Easter Saturday, April 4.
