Sen-Sgt Doug Incoll said a small percentage had acted “disgracefully” during last weekend’s event.
“Unfortunately their behaviour will be the catalyst for a review of the way the event is conducted next year,” he said.
“There’s a big chance it will be alcohol-free.
“People complained to police about the behaviour of some of the crowd, particularly on Saturday.
“It wasn’t really somewhere that you’d take your children.”
Sen-Sgt Incoll said the event, which has run for 24 years, had never had major issues.
He said it appeared alcohol — which can be consumed in public during the show — was behind most incidents.
“There were eight public order and street offences with two charged and taken into custody for being drunk and six people charged with offensive behaviour,” Sen-Sgt Incoll said.
“Police aren’t going to tolerate that behaviour, which marred a well managed and well conducted event.
“This small per cent of people have caused issues.”
A man had his Ford XR6 Turbo impounded during the weekend after being caught doing burnouts before evading police and being detected at 176km/h.
Sen-Sgt Incoll said there had also been multiple fights.
Police will meet with the Bright Rod and Kustom Club and Alpine Shire Council to discuss how next year’s event will be managed.
Club treasurer Mike Dealy said the group was likely to support the ban.
“We’re working with police to reach a satisfactory conclusion to the issue,” he said.
Mayor Jan Vonarx said the council was “more than happy” to meet with the police and organisers to discuss next year’s event.
