Mr McCaffrey told The Border Mail he had an open ticket, meaning for voters to vote for him first and make up their own minds about the rest.
But he has a how-to-vote card preferencing Labor second, independent Ray Dyer third, Nationals MP Tim McCurdy fourth and Australian Country Alliance last.
Mr McCaffrey meant to say he wished for voters to “think about their vote and their preferences” for themselves.
