The Border will host its first fashion show for World Aids Day, with everyone encouraged to don a blood-red outfit and parade down a catwalk at the Albury Library Museum from 12pm.
Murrumbidgee Local Health District sexual health clinical nurse consultant Alison Kincaid said awareness needed to be raised to reduce discrimination.
“There is a lack of knowledge about how it is transmitted and people don’t get much exposure to those with HIV,” she said.
“That means people are less likely to be open about it due to a fear or experience of discrimination.
“Don’t discriminate people based on a perception of what group they belong to and learn about HIV.”
Ms Kincaid said awareness was vital when preventing the spread of HIV and AIDS.
“Keep safe if you’re sexually active,” she said.
Free sexual health checks are also available today at the Albury Community Health Centre from 9am to 6.30pm.
