Flagg, who kicked 71 goals in 34 matches with the Ovens and Murray club, told the Panthers yesterday he wanted to test himself in the SANFL.
The move ended weeks of speculation over Flagg’s playing future and comes 12 months after a drawn-out contract stalemate almost saw him leave the club.
“It’s great that he’s trying to better his football,” Lavington coach James Saker said.
“Hopefully he does well.
“He will always be welcome at Lavington.”
Flagg is the third Ovens and Murray player to join a SANFL club in the off-season following the departure of Albury’s Lonnie Hampton to Glenelg and Yarrawonga’s Connor Hargeaves to Central District.
His departure will rob Lavington of one of its major strike weapons with marking targets Adam Prior, Andrew Dess and Justin Koschitzke to shoulder the bulk of the scoring responsibility next season.
It remains unclear how many matches Koschitzke will play for the Panthers due to his work.
Flagg, 21, joined Lavington from Greater Western Sydney and previously spent time with Southport.
South Adelaide is coached by former North Melbourne star Peter German.
Jay Banks (Wollongong) and Sam Bowler and Tom Ross (Kiewa-Sandy Creek) are the only other confirmed departures.
