But Deniliquin parent and fellow rider, Sarah Young, said their training in the lead-up to the event had paid off.
“The gap the steepest part of the whole journey, but we stuck in there,” she said.
“I know these kids are going to sleep with a smile on their face for all the effort they have put in.”
The ride has been a tradition for the school’s students over the past 12 years.
“The kids volunteer and this year we have 25 of them between year 7 and year 10,” Mrs Young said.
Training leading up to the event consisted mainly of flat roads.
“We come from an area that is so flat, so we were training 99 per cent on flat roads,” Mrs Young said.
The group arrived in Bright just in time to dodge yesterday afternoon’s heavy rainfall.
Almost 4000 cyclists are taking part in the event that saw them peddle from Albury to Yackandandah on Sunday as part of the first leg.
Today, riders will leave Bright and make their way to Moyhu.
The nine-day event finishes at Lilydale on Sunday.
