Nicholas Leighton Wilson, 22, of Vine Street, appeared in Albury Local Court and pleaded guilty to charges of intentionally marking premises without consent and possessing a graffiti implement with intent.
Magistrate Tony Murray said substantial penalties applied for such offences, including jail.
“Albury is remarkably clear regarding tagging,” he said.
“It is one of the beauties of Albury that we do not have these type of markings.”
Solicitor Mark Cronin said Wilson marked the front of an abandoned bowling alley in Olive Street.
Police advised Mr Murray that no compensation was being sought for the marking by Wilson which was about one-metre long.
Police were patrolling in an unmarked car on September 12 when they saw him write a tag on the wall of the old bowling alley owned by the SS and A Club.
Officers stopped and approached him, but Wilson ran off through a car park and eluded them.
But police obtained his identity and approached him at work in Centro Albury four days later.
He denied any knowledge of the offence and provided false details.
Police tracked him down on September 26, arrested him and Wilson admitted the offences.
Mr Cronin said Wilson’s employment at a bakery was terminated 10 minutes after police went there and spoke to him.
