Perth-based firm Blanalko will build the terminal at the Logic centre, based at Barnawartha, with details of the multi-million-dollar deal to be revealed today.
Blanalko is the property arm of SCT Logistics which operates rail freight terminals in Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Parkes.
In October, it was revealed some of the financial incentives being sought by SCT Logistics from the council and the state government to build a rail terminal at Logic included deferment of payment for land, the right to reserve adjacent blocks of land and a multi-year rate holiday.
Rail campaigner Bill Traill was among those at the time who raised the point a rail hub at Logic would threaten the position of an existing hub at Ettamogah, and potentially cost taxpayers a bomb.
Member for Benambra Bill Tilley last night repeated his concerns about taxpayers bankrolling private enterprise, saying “I am all for competition, but not on the back of taxpayers’ money”.
That is the school of thought one would expect on the matter.
The devil may be in the details when they are revealed today.
