The restaurant will be built on the corner of Borella Road and Drome Street on land earmarked for a major bulky goods outlet seven years ago.
The fast food chain already has outlets in central Albury and Wagga Road, Lavington and another two restaurants in Wodonga.
A development application for the $1.83 million restaurant, which will include seating for 96 people internally and another 10 outside, was recently lodged with Albury Council.
The site has been re-designed to accommodate a smaller scale bulky goods shopping development, the McDonald’s restaurant and an existing carwash.
A development application for two bulky goods premises is still to be lodged. The carwash was created in the mid-2000s.
McDonald’s plan to create more than 50 parking spaces and a dual lane drive through at the E outlet which is located opposite the Easternview housing estate.
The development application states: “The new McDonald’s operation will provide a convenient food outlet to serve residents, workers and tourists visiting the site.
“The proposal is considered to be in the public interest as it will deliver a number of public, social and economic benefits with minimal adverse impacts.”
The McDonald’s restaurant will occupy 3174 square metres with frontages to Borella Road and Drome Street.
The bulky goods premises will occupy 4505 square metres with frontage to Borella Road with an existing service road to be upgraded.
The restaurant will be open 24 hours, seven days a week with an average 12 staff members on site at all times.
Major landscaping works including feature trees, shrubs and grasses are also proposed.
The Harvey Norman complex opened in 2007 on the former greyhound track.
Rival outlet Hungry Jack’s has opened two outlets this year south of the border in the White Box Rise estate and Logic industrial hub truck stop.
