MARTIN John McDonough has been committed for sentencing in the District Court next year over his possession of a home-made Taser and a large number of guns.

McDonough, 39, of North Albury, pleaded guilty in Albury Local Court yesterday to manufacturing a prohibited weapon without a permit and possessing more than three unregistered firearms, with one being a prohibited pistol.
He was originally charged with 38 offences, but a large number were withdrawn and others will be taken into consideration on a form going before the sentencing judge.
Magistrate Tony Murray ordered a pre-sentence report and adjourned McDonough’s sentencing to the District Court sittings starting on February 16.
Police applied for a search warrant on August 27 and executed it at 8am the following morning at McDonough’s home in Stephen Street.
The court was told in tendered facts officers found five rounds of ammunition in the lounge room and the Taser in the kitchen.
McDonough admitted he had made the Taser and demonstrated how it worked with an electric shock being administered on contact.
Four rifles were found under a lounge and a double barrel shotgun was in a bag in an open cabinet.
Police also found a .177 air rifle and a rusted antique eight-shot .22 revolver in a container.
Three double-barrel shotguns were under a lounge on the verandah of a shed and McDonough told police about them.
He was arrested and taken to the police station where he was interviewed.
McDonough admitted owning all the guns apart from one, the Taser and a small amount of cannabis resin found as well.
He said the guns had belonged to a friend who had died and he was holding them until the man’s family decided what to do with them.
McDonough said he got the pistol from the river.
It was corroded and not in working condition with missing components including the trigger.
He conceded the guns were not stored safely and he did not have a firearms licence.
McDonough was refused bail soon after being charged and appeared through a video link from Junee jail.
