After second top-scoring with 20 in Benalla’s total of 136, Brodie picked up 4-20 off nine overs to bundle the host association out for 113 in the 50th over.
Wade King (3-8) was also outstanding on day one of the North East Junior Cricket Carnival as Benalla comfortably defended the small target.
Brodie plays for St Joseph’s and has spent time with the North East Knights in recent seasons.
Benalla’s bowling depth was pivotal on a slow wicket with coach Gary Abley afforded the luxury of using nine bowlers.
CAW’s Cooper Garoni top-scored with 18 while Chris Galvin chipped in with 16 while Chris Anderson, Sean McDonald and Josh Barrett grabbed two wickets each earlier in the day.
Meanwhile, Yarrawonga quick Angus McMillan was the destroyer as Wangaratta and District started their campaign with a 23-run win over CAW Country at Xavier High School.
The left-armer took 5-19 as CAW Country was restricted to 140 with Keegan Jenkins topscoring with 35 and Jake Page chipping in with 26.
Captain Reid Clarke led the run chase with 54.
Wangaratta coach Ryan Martin said it was pleasing start to the carnival with a win.
In the under 15s, CAW’s hard-hitting batsman Hudson Garoni scored the first century of the carnival when he blazed 103 not out in their big win over Wangaratta at Yarrawonga.
Coming to the crease in the third over, Garoni batted superbly as the line-up made 3-206 off 45 overs with support from Will Donaghey (46) and Lachie McMillan (28).
Wangaratta replied with 8-126 off 45 overs.
Winning coach Richard McMillan said Garoni set up the win with a well-timed innings.
“I think Hudson only hit two boundaries in his first 50 and then he really got going,” McMillan said.
In other highlights, Bright bowler Mitchell Botter grabbed a hat-trick in the Geoff Welch Shield as Wangaratta Gold edged out Wangaratta Blue at Mansfield.
