The new saleyards at Barnawartha North will debut next month after it was decided not to risk any teething problems by holding the new year feature sales there.
It was a sentimental occasion.
Trevor Parker, from Corcoran Parker, said he and many others had spent their working lives at the Bandiana facility, which opened in 1980.
But the focus was clearly on the business of the day, and with a surge in prices, the last memories of the old saleyards will be fond.
Controversy has raged about the new saleyards since Wodonga Council revealed plans to privatise them in 2006, with stakeholders upset at the time about a lack of consultation.
Debate raged and there were even threats against councillors and staff.
We are a long way down the track now and there will be none of that when the new saleyards debut.
But for ratepayers now, the burning question is what is to become of the Bandiana site, and what will be the cost of any plan?
