After completely outplaying East Albury before Christmas, McNeil said his team’s season was well and truly alive with five rounds left.
“We probably need to win most games from here to play finals so this game is very important,” he said.
“The break probably came at the worst time for us after beating East Albury and losing a tight game against St Patrick’s, but we will get back into it and hopefully return to that sort of form.
“It was massive for us beating East Albury so comprehensively playing our form of cricket.
“New City is going to be keen to do well too.”
Belvoir will be without Mick Russell and Blake Nikolic and promoted wily veterans Mick Spiteri and Peter Cook after impressive performances in second grade.
While the Eagles have let several golden opportunities slip, the same can be said for New City.
The Phoenix have only beaten Wodonga Raiders and Tallangatta, but have blown winning chances in several other matches due to lapses in concentration.
McNeil said he hoped the rain would stay away for the Saturday-Sunday match.
“It’s doesn’t look great but hopefully we get the game in,” he said.
“Both sides need a win to stay in touch.”
Lavington is eager to improve its poor recent record against East Albury at Alexandra Park.
Coach Robbie Mackinlay said the Panthers had struggled against the Crows in his time with the club and wanted to rectify the situation.
“They have had the wood on us a bit lately,” he said.
“I’m not sure why it is,
“We need to beat a team above us on the ladder to consolidate our position.”
Meanwhile, last night’s Charity Big Bash finals were postponed due to the rain.
While officials are yet to lock in a new date, Wednesday night is a possibility at Lavington Oval.
