Adrian Watson had put almost 12 years of work into his 1994 R33 Nissan Skyline which was taken from his driveway some time between 6pm Thursday and 7.20am yesterday.
He said the last time he saw the car was when he got home from work the previous afternoon.
“The car holds sentimental value because it was my first car,” Mr Watson said.
“I poured a lot of work into the vehicle and spent a lot of time and money doing it up.
“I was devastated to see it had gone missing, it’s pretty frustrating, I’ve worked a hard for what I have today and to have people come and take it away is really disappointing.”
What surprised Mr Watson the most was the fact that neither he nor his neighbours heard anything.
He said the car was highly modified and the exhaust system would have woken him if the thieves had started the vehicle.
“The car is pretty distinguished, it has a body kit and a black carbon fibre bonnet, tinted windows and stickers down the doors — they are all things that stand out.
“The battery was disconnected on the vehicle so they wouldn’t have been able to start it, and they keys were still inside our house.
“We would have woken up to it starting if it had have been turned on because our bedroom is at the front of the house.”
The silver car was locked at the time of the incident and has NSW registration AOU-86T.
It was taken from Mitchell Park Estate in Thurgoona and it is believed it may have been rolled down the road, possibly onto a trailer.
Inspector Scott Russell said the matter was under investigation and police were unsure at this stage whether it was a targeted attack.
“People steal vehicles for a number of reasons, it could be for a joy ride or sold for parts,” he said.
“We would ask that members of the public keep an eye out for the vehicle or anything in relation to selling of parts.”
