The Border’s newly-formed NPL team will play a division lower than the FFA Cup fairytale team but was able to be competitive for the first stanza.
Last night’s game at LaTrobe followed a trial against recently promoted North Geelong on Saturday night.
Murray United’s technical director Paul Millynn was buoyed by the performances.
“Realistically the bench mark for us is Geelong,” he said.
“They won promotion from NPL1 this year whereas Bentleigh are probably in the top three in premier league and just a step down from A-League.
“The results were irrelevant but it what was what we were able to get out of the game that counted.
“On Saturday a very young side was able to hold Geelong in the first half and then they put four goals on us, we played a stronger side on Sunday night that was probably missing four maybe five of our best.
“The press applied by our players was what we were looking for and we feel we are headed in the right direction.
“This was a club who is yet to play for competition points in the NPL up against well-drilled teams.”
