Dual AWFA golden boot winner Trent Rixon will be at the pointy-end of the attack for the visitors while, at the opposite end of the park, younger brother Kade will line up on one of the wings for the Border team.
The pair said there had been no shortage of sledging this week at the house they shared in Melbourne.
“We have both been having a go,” Kade said yesterday.
“As the younger brother, it’s my duty to give it to him.
“But the reality is that unless we clash at a corner, we will be at opposite ends of the park for most of the game.”
Rixon jnr, 26, admitted he had reservations about the chances of a Border-based club but now wished it had happened years ago.
“Clearly, there is a great opportunity for the younger guys to be picked up and go further with their football,” he said.
“When I heard about these plans 18 months ago I thought it would never happen, but the guys behind the scenes, those backing the club, have done an enormous amount of work and it’s a great place to be.
“Trent had to go to Melbourne to pursue his football dream and we talk about how different it might have been had Murray United been around when we were growing up.”
Coach Mick Richards said despite niggling injuries forcing some key players to sit out the clash, he again expected to be competitive.
On Sunday, Murray United was beaten 2-0 by FFA Cup semi-finalists Bentleigh Greens in one of two trials over the long weekend.
“There are some players who are a couple of weeks off but we’ll have a good squad,” he said.
“Last week the guys hung in there against some really good sides.
“Their attitude was great, and they worked very hard for each other.
“This week we should expect to see them build on this against a strong Port Melbourne team.”
The game starts at the LaTrobe University ground in Wodonga about 5.30pm.
