In a blow for the Raiders, Visser will today have surgery to re-attach the retinacular tissue in his ankle after an injury suffered last year.
By the time he is ready to resume training, Visser will have been out for nearly two years.
The long layoff has caused the 21-year-old to question whether he will be able to return to the game at all.
“Everything is really up in the air at this stage,” he said.
“I’m keen to take some time off and put the injury behind me.”
Visser will spend two weeks in a splint and a further six in a moonboot following the surgery, saying he would weigh up his option while he recovered.
“It’s really too early to make a decision on anything yet,” he said.
“For now I’ll probably just occupy myself with work, and I’m hoping to get a bit of skiing in through winter.”
The young Raider said he was also looking forward to spending some time mountain biking and swimming, both pursuits he excelled at as a junior.
“It’ll be good to take some time off footy, and let my body properly recover,” he said.
Visser was courted by VFL club North Ballarat in 2012, before returning to the Raiders in 2013.
His absence will be a blow for coach Daryn Cresswell, who has bolstered his list with the additions of Todd Grayson, Jason Goldsmith, Dean Heta, Josh Warren-Marmo and Sam Murray.
