The Sunday edition is a little longer, meaning that Dr Chris Brown and Julia Morris have extra time to speak to camera. That's not a great thing, though at least Dr Chris seems to have realised he can make the odd joke and nothing will happen. Including laughter, admittedly, but it's a start.

First up we get to watch Andrew Daddo and Anna Heinrich try to get food for the camp in Fright for Sore Eyes: where they have to identity a series of African animals while blindfolded. The celebs, I mean: it's unclear how one could successfully blindfold the animals.

It's an early win when they successfully identify the giant snails which have been placed on their faces. "It feels like a facial," Anna explains. Andrew smirks. "I don't know where you're going for your facials."

For some reason they think that small, spiny things are "anteaters" rather than, say, "hedgehogs", and Andrew is certain that the meerkat squirming in his arms is a mongoose. But aside from that, they nail the identification of hyenas, bushpigs and lions. Juvenile lions, sure, but they're still freakin' huge and toothy – and not things you'd necessarily like to rub your hands all over when you can't see what you're doing.

Back in the camp the celebs are getting increasingly irked with one another. Chrissie Swan gets Merv Hughes to do his trademark aerobics, while Joel Creasey, Laura Dundovic and Lauren Brant bitch about Merv in a swimming hole dish session. However, they're missing the real threat since Barry Hall seems pretty much ready to murder everyone.

Speaking of which, they get to see a green tree snake swim into the waterhole and take out a frog. Joel's particularly surprised, identifying it as one of the most deadly snakes in the world (and he's correct too: the boomslang's a particularly bad thing by which to be bitten, herpetology fans). So that oughta keep them good and scared.

Joel kills some very killable airtime with a video tour of camp, which appears to assume that no-one's watched the thing thus far. And then Tim Robards gives a little chiropractic session for Laura – although Dr Chris makes the somewhat pointed comment that as a chiro Robards is not a real doctor, which is absolutely true.

And as the only couple in the camp, Tim and Anna get some serious Valentines canoodling in – much to Lauren's envious fury.

In order to win popcorn for the camp, Tim and Maureen do get to feed some vultures and unravel a message left on the bones they strip. Foreshadowing? Hmmm…

Speaking of which, Andrew and Barry are cooking, and they're getting highly angry with people giving any opinion whatsoever. "I was probably a bit blunt with everyone tonight," Barry says, "but I don't care anymore." See? Brace yourself, campers: Barrygeddon is coming.

The weird macho hierarchy around cooking is going to be upended, though, since the two intruders are MasterChef winner Julie Goodwin and former UK cricket captain Freddie Flintoff. But before they're introduced, after so much messing around, we're kicking two people out.

It's a slog, after wading through the 20-odd minutes of actual content in the near two hours of show, but Australia has spoken: Laura and Tim are gone, while Lauren is saved at the last second (and seems genuinely disappointed about it).

Anna is predictably devastated to lose her boo, but she should take comfort in the fact that she's unlikely to stick around much longer. Let's be honest: this show has largely become a referendum on who has the best name recognition, so brace yourself for the Merv/Marcia Brady final.
