Carolyn Baker will not only walk to her Woolworths store at Whitebox Rise, but to nine other stores in the North East to raise money for charity.
Her walk will start in Bright, with the proceeds from the 200-kilometre trek donated to the Heart Foundation and the dialysis unit at Wodonga hospital.
Ms Baker said walking almost 54 kilometres to Everton on the first day would be the first big challenge.
“I’m passionate about the two causes because I lost my husband to heart disease and I recently lost my mum to kidney disease,” she said.
“I’m fortunate that I work in a company that’s very big on fundraising and community events.
“I’m on my own doing the walk, but I have had offers from other store managers who want to do certain legs of it with me, which is fantastic; for me that is emotional that they would take that on because these two things are obviously dear to me.”
The journey starts on March 8. On day two she will walk from Everton to Wangaratta; on day three to Corowa; day four to Barnawartha; on day five she will stop at the Logic Centre, Thurgoona, Lavington and Albury before walking to Wodonga Plaza and finishing at Whitebox Rise on day six.
Each store will hold their own fundraisers on the day of Ms Baker’s arrival and collection tins will be out for the duration of the walk.
Ms Baker said she was squeezing in as much preparation as she could.
“I’ve been walking around Barnawartha where I live,” she said.
