IT was with some frustration that I read Derek Robinson’s letter titled “Islamic State Must Be Stopped” (The Border Mail, February 25).

I don’t think any reasonable person would argue that it must be put down as quickly as possible.
But my frustration is due to another demand that Islamic leaders in Australia “speak out.”
This selective deafness — afflicting many from our dog-whistling PM to certain sectors of the media — appears to be quite common.
Islamic leaders in Australia and the world over are actually condemning terrorism, and are doing so frequently.
They’re probably being drowned out by the ceaseless grumbled accusations about their inactivity.
Or perhaps something more sinister, such as calculated political scapegoating to take the focus off other gaffes from the toxic Tony show.
Anyway, Google “Muslim Leaders Condemn ISIL,” Derek, and I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
It is also debatable whether it should be incumbent upon decent Australian Muslims to have to justify a group whose actions have absolutely nothing to do with them.
Should we demand that every Catholic answer for paedophiles?
