The club has received 134 nominations for the seven-race card, which is an increase on the 115 entries last year.
The $15,000 feature has attracted 21 nominations with the Brian Cox-trained He’s An Angel allocated top weight of 60 kilograms.
He’s An Angel will be chasing back-to-back cups after capturing the high country feature last year with Robbie Beattie aboard.
Cox could have a three-pronged attack in the race, with stablemates Murdoch’s Joy and Grassini also among the entries.
The meeting has been well-supported by Border trainers with Cox, Peter Maher, Stephen Aldridge, Louisa Dove, Stuart Hawkins and Liz Aalbers all set to make the trek into the hills.
SUNDAY’S Corowa Cup is the highlight of the weekend’s Southern District racing action.
The $30,000 feature has 17 entries, with 121 for the eight-race meeting.
Talented Full Hand has been allocated top-weight of 61 kilograms.
The Brian Cox-trained galloper is chasing consecutive Corowa features after winning last year with Ernie Marchant aboard.
Veteran stablemate Hes An Angel is also nominated for both the Corowa Cup and the Towong Cup which is run on the previous day.
Richard Freyer (Infuse), Brett Cavanough (Bono Vox), Kevin Hanley (Arctic Grey), Syliva Thompson (Get’s Better), Alex Aquilina (Olly I Am) and Mandie Jones (Hardenup) are other local trainers with nominations.
ALBURY trainer Brett Cavanough is set to unleash several runners at the Canberra Cup meeting on Sunday.
Cavanough has nominated up and coming stayer Game Of Shadows for the $200,00 feature.
Game Of Shadows won at Albury on Friday but faces a huge rise in grade at Canberra.
The Monstar, Lampedusa and Corsica Lad are other Cavanough runners nominated for the meeting.
The Monstar resumes from a freshen-up and the slick speedster is set to target either the City Handicap or The Flat Knacker over the Albury Gold Cup carnival.
