Lane has applied for a visa and, if all goes to plan, will fly out for England early next month.
He will play for Annfield Plain in Durham.
“I guess it’s something that I have always wanted to do,” Lane said yesterday.
“If my visa and everything goes through, I’ll be heading off in early April.
“I’m looking forward to getting over there.”
Lane made his senior debut for Corowa-Rutherglen in 2009 and has developed into one of the Roos’ most valuable players as a ruckman and key position player in recent seasons.
His departure will leave a gaping hole in the line-up with fellow tall Lachie McLarty set to play in Cairns.
Ovens and Murray pre-season action will kick off today with Yarrawonga playing Therry Penola at J.C. Lowe Oval and Albury and Lavington playing Eastlake and Ainslie respectively in Canberra.
Myrtleford will host Wangaratta tomorrow.
