The swipe card will replace the key pad access, but the new system won’t be introduced until July by Albury Council.
Alexandra Park advisory committee chairman Cr Daryl Betteridge said the facility was due to be handed back to the council by contractors Team Sports Pty Ltd.
“We will receive an update about all the details around the handover this week,” Cr Betteridge said.
“It is very close to being finished.
“We are moving away from a keyed entry to a swipe card system.
“The finer details are being fine tuned.”
The Alexandra Park upgrade has been under way since 2011 when planning began.
The venue is used for up to 60 school carnivals a year and utlised by Albury, Lavington and Jindera little athletics, and athletes and coaches.
The new swipe card entry system will be installed by Border Security.
To access the track, card holders will need to swipe in through turnstiles located at the main entrance and south-west corner of the track and also swipe out to exit.
Pilot cards will be used to test the facility before a full roll-out of the swipe cards.
The cards will be available for a $20 fee with set visits and times then attached to them.
Coaching sessions will be charged at an hourly rate.
Cards are expected to be on sale and topped up at the nearby Lauren Jackson Sports Centre.
Alexandra Park’s replacement synthetic surface will meet IAAF class 2 certification in line with international standards.
The track has also been reconstructed with the existing synthetic surface laid in 1996.
