KHAYAMIYA AT THE ALBURY LIBRARY MUSEUM (UNTIL MID APRIL): An exhibition of a rare and spectacular art form rarely seen outside of Egypt, Khayamiya, a form of Egyptian tentmaker applique, helps preserve the memory of this art form before it disappears.
ALBURY REGIONAL ART GALLERY: TEMPORARILY CLOSED BECAUSE OF MAJOR RENOVATIONS AND EXPANSION (DUE TO RE-OPEN JUNE 2015): After 32 years, the Albury Art Gallery has temporarily closed its doors to make way for a nine-gallery $10.5 million redevelopment to be known once more as the Albury Regional Art Gallery. YACKANDANDAH ARTISTS ON SHOW (OPEN TUESDAYS TO SUNDAYS): Yack Station was created to provide a practical space for artists to work and a destination for visitors to watch art being made and purchase the original pieces. The tranquil location is the site of the old Yackandandah Railway Station which is no longer operational as a railway station. Future plans include a railway museum to become an integral part of Yack Station paying homage to the town’s cultural history. The end result will be artist work spaces and art gallery, a market style area for visitors to watch talented artists create their pieces and an educational, cultural experience at the Railway Museum. Stage one is complete with artists on site and visitors increasing daily. It’s a must-see destination for artists, tourists and cultural history enthusiasts. Open 11am to 3pm Tuesday to Sunday. BENALLA ART GALLERY
TRADITIONALISTS OF AUSTRALIAN LANDSCAPE PAINTING (UNTIL FEBRUARY 15): An exhibition of landscapes from the school of Australian Impressionism. The images of Australia’s landscape have touched the imaginations of artists for centuries. It was a key source of inspiration to artists of the nineteenth and 20th century and they produced a large volume of work depicting people, places and landscapes using ‘impressionist’ techniques with quick, broad strokes to capture the light and colour they saw as they painted. The paintings and watercolours in this exhibition are drawn from the Alec Cato Collection, Wesley College, Melbourne and the Benalla Art Gallery Collection. Australian painters include Arthur Streeton, Frederick McCubbin, Tom Roberts, Hans Heysen , Penleigh Boyd and others as they travelled to all to all four corners of Australia. The works on display have rarely been exhibited. Floor talks by Kenneth Park, Curator of Collections at Wesley College are scheduled to take place during the exhibition.
COROWA ARTS SPACE
COROWA COLLECTION (OPEN DAILY): The Corowa Collection showcases the prize winners in all sections of the annual Federation Art Show that have been acquired by the Federation Art Show Committee and held in trust by Corowa Council for the past 14 years. This is the first time that these art works have been displayed together as a collection and for many of these works it is the first time they have been on public display. The gallery is open 11am to 4pm weekdays, 11am to 3pm Saturdays and 11am to 1pm Sundays.

ALBURY LIBRARY MUSEUM
RED CROSS: 100 YEARS (UNTIL MAY 31, 2015): Part of the world’s largest humanitarian movement, Red Cross has been woven into the fabric of Australian life for 100 years, responding to natural disasters, providing a blood service and everyday work to help vulnerable people. Hundreds of thousands of volunteers signed up during World War I, and by World War II Red Cross had become Australia’s largest charitable organisation. CROSSING PLACE: A STORY OF ALBURY (ONGOING): This compelling multimedia exhibition is on permanent display in the main galleries of the Albury Library Museum. Crossing Place uses objects, audio and film to tell the story of Albury from first contact with the Wiradjuri people, traditional owners of the land, to the city we share today. Wiradjuri Talkback and The Bonegilla Story are highlights.
ARMY MUSEUM BANDIANA
EXTENSIVE MILITARY DISPLAY (MONDAYS TO SATURDAYS — BY APPOINTMENT): The Army Museum Bandiana houses 190 army vehicles, dozens of field guns, weapons, uniforms, medals and items dating back to the 18th century are displayed in the museum at the Gaza Ridge Barracks, Anderson Road, Bandiana, near Wodonga. 8TH/13TH VICTORIAN MOUNTED RIFLES MUSEUM, NORTH BANDIANA
LIGHT HORSE AND ARMOURED EXHIBITIONS (PHONE FOR OPENING TIMES): The 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles Museum’s aim is the preservation, interpretation and display of artefacts and documents related to light horse and armoured units that make up the lineage of the 8/13 VMR. BONEGILLA MIGRANT EXPERIENCE, BONEGILLA
MULTICULTURAL HISTORY (OPEN DAILY): With National Heritage listing, Block 19 Bonegilla has become part of the narrative of nation. Twelve kilometres from Wodonga on Lake Hume, Block 19 was one of 24 similar blocks built in the Bonegilla complex as an army camp during World War II. It became the Bonegilla Migrant Reception and Training centre in 1947, and housed migrants until 1971. JINDERA HISTORY (OPEN OCTOBER TO APRIL): The Jindera Pioneer Museum in the old Wagner’s Store is filled will all kinds of articles — furniture, household goods and machinery, gathered into an original and historic setting of old world architecture and charm. CHILTERN HISTORY (OPEN MOST DAYS): Highlights include memorabilia relating to Country Party leader Sir John (Black Jack) McEwen, whose father operated the local pharmacy from 1891 to 1907, a World War I photographic collection, artworks by Alfred Eustace including several gumleaf paintings and photographic and outdoor displays of Chiltern’s mining and agricultural past and an exhibition relating to the famous author Henry Handel Richardson, who lived in Chiltern. TRASH AND TREASURE MEMORABLILIA (PHONE FOR OPENING HOURS): Dales Cellar Mini Museum is a collection of trash and treasure memorabilia of the past including Henty’s Manual Telephone Exchange, the first “ambulance” — a two wheeled stretcher, cash registers, jugs, irons, toasters, radios and much more. SUBMARINE HISTORY AND MEMORABILIA (OPEN DAILY): Up periscope and dive aboard HMAS Submarine Otway. See the original above water line superstructure of the Oberon Class submarine HMAS Otway and the submarine museum, which are set in beautiful parkland. There’s also a large scale model of Lt Norman Holbrook VC’s submarine BII, submarine artefacts, a working periscope and a photo display.

HOLBROOK’S HISTORICAL TREASURES (OPEN DAILY*): This large, unique and varied display of historical treasures includes the best collection of submarine artefacts in Australia. HARRIETVILLE HISTORICAL MUSEUM
HISTORICAL GEMS (OPEN SUMMER PUBLIC HOLIDAYS AND WEEKEND AFTERNOONS OR BY APPOINTMENT): One of the town’s few surviving miner’s cottages has been relocated and lovingly restored with a new museum added behind. Learn about the early gold mining days, mountain cattlemen, ski pioneers, St Bernard’s Hospice, the building of the Hotham Road constructed completely using hand tools in the 1860s as well as the wonderful array of colourful characters who have played a part in Harrietville and district’s past.The museum is located in Athenaeum Reserve on the Great Alpine Road in Harrietville next to the Harrietville General Store.Information: phone (03) 5759 2797.

HISTORICAL BRIGHT (OPEN VARIOUS TIMES AND BY APPOINTMENT): The Bright and District Historical Society’s heritage-listed former Bright Railway Station, now the Bright Museum, features rolling stock typical of that used on the old Ovens Valley Railway. The museum covers railway history, gold mining history and also the social history of the area with local family histories and a photographic collection plus there is a reconstructed Chinese Joss House. WANGARATTA AND NORTH EAST HISTORIC COLLECTION (OPEN SUNDAYS, TUESDAYS AND FRIDAYS): This Wangaratta Historical Society museum is housed in the former Wangaratta Fire Station building in Ford Street. The collection features smaller items of historical significance — household, commercial, industrial, agricultural, military and more — from the Wangaratta district, a collection of about 10,000 historic and recent photographs plus a collection of more than 3000 glass plate negatives. FINLEY RAILWAY MUSEUM
RAILWAY HISTORY (BOOKINGS BY APPOINTMENT): The well-preserved Finley Station is one of the few Pioneer stations still standing and is also host to the Finley Pioneer Railway Museum containing artefacts and real life railway stories. Take a guided tour with a volunteer and learn about the history of the Finley Pioneer Railway Station or simply have a look around at the on-site railway memorabilia dating back to the 1890s. DOING THE BOLT - CONVICTS AND BUSHRANGERS (OPEN BY APPOINTMENT): See an extensive collection of exact replicas and originals including 30 storyboards and banners detailing the life of bushrangers and convicts, pistols and guns flag flown at the Eureka Rebellion, cat o’ nine tails and a whipping post, shackles and locks and much more. The exhibition is housed next to the Library in the Old Printery building, the historic printing office of the Jerilderie and Urana Gazette where Ned Kelly attempted to have his manifesto, The Jerilderie Letter, printed.
