BORDER sports teams have honoured the memory of late Leeton High School teacher Stephanie Scott.
Netballers wore yellow ribbons during their weekend matches while Albury Thunder players released yellow balloons as part of the commemorations.
Police found a burnt body, which they believed to be Ms Scott, in the Cocoparra National Park on Friday.
Leeton High School cleaner Vincent Stanford, 24, has been charged with her murder.
Ovens and Murray netball chairwoman Tamara Mathews said several clubs had donned the yellow ribbons and some matches opened with a minute’s silence.
“It was such a sad and tragic situation,” she said.
“For a lot of the girls it hits home as to how vulnerable we can be and how easily it can happen.
“Being a small community like Leeton, it just felt close to home.”
Coaches and supporters had also worn the ribbons.
“I think it was an understated way of acknowledging what happened,” Mathews said.
“So many people’s thoughts are with that family and the community in Leeton.”
