The committee has given the nod to the sale of stage 1 at the Nexus industrial hub at Ettamogah.
If the estate is approved by the full council later this month, it will directly compete with Wodonga Council’s Logic industrial estate at Barnawartha North.
But the Nexus estate’s path through council isn’t guaranteed. One of the supporters of the plan, Cr Graham Docksey will be absent from this month’s meeting, potentially leaving the council deadlocked on the issue.
The estate would be established on the former Kenilworth property, which was bought by the council from the former Albury Wodonga Development Corporation in 2006.
The council is yet to set aside money for infrastructure costs including roads and services.
If the new estate receives the council go-ahead, it will help to ensure greater choice for those looking for industrial land in the region, but there will be questions from ratepayers on both sides of the border about how much of their money is spent in the process.
